Summary of Position
- Under the supervision of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Liaison Officer (LO) the Operational Liaison Assistant (OLA) will perform a range of operational, strategic, administrative and clerical activities to assist the CBSA program.
- The CBSA OLA will be responsible for supporting the CBSA in providing integrated border services that support Canada’s national security and public safety priorities while facilitating the free flow of persons and goods in the LO’s area of responsibility (AoR).
OLA responsibilities include:
- Reporting on cross-border criminal activities and trends involving people and goods;
- Liaising with local immigration, customs, law enforcement, and airline partners on CBSA mandate issues;
- Assisting the LO in expanding border management cooperation with officials in the area of responsibility (Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Equatorial Guinea);
- Representing the LO and the CBSA in networking with representatives of host countries and other organizations;
- Coordinating travel and meeting planning;
- Receiving and responding to telephone calls and emails;
- Preparing correspondence, spreadsheets, and presentations;
- Monitoring budget expenditures; and completing all required clerical activities.
- Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
- Minimum of three (3) years recent* experience working in a field related to border security or law enforcement, including but not limited to fraudulent document detection, the administration of customs legislation or the administration of immigration legislation.
- Minimum of one (1) years recent* experience working in an office environment in an administrative support or program assistant capacity.
- Experience liaising with Nigerian government agencies, international organizations, foreign missions, or otherwise.
- *Recent experience is defined as within the last 5 years.
- The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests and/or presentations.
