774,000 Jobs Recruitment by the Federal Government – Festus Keyamo
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment Festus Keyamo, (SAN) revealed in the letter he wrote to NASS Joint Committees that the Federal Government has appropriated the sum of N52 Billion for its proposed 774,000 jobs.
The Minister further said that each beneficiary of the new job Scheme will receive a Salary of the sum of N60,000 monthly, adding that the sum of N46.44 billion has been appropriated for it.
He made this known in a letter addressed to the Chairman, Senate Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity, and the Chairman, House of Representatives’ Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity, ahead his second appearance to the House on Tuesday, 7th July 2020 by 12 noon.
He further detailed it with more explanation, saying that out of the N52 Billion that has been appropriated for the programme, N46 44 Billion is for actual payment of the stipends of those to be engaged, while the remaining balance of N5.56 Billion will be for the purchase of tools and light equipment, the transportation, storage and security of those equipment in all the 774 LGAs in the Country, said the Minister.
That is approximately the sum of N7.183 Million per LGA for the three-month period. The procurement of these items can only be done by the National Directorate of Employment, complying with strict procurement guidelines in the Public Procurement Act.”
Keyamo, in addition assured Nigerians that at the end of the programme, the Federal Government would have selected and engaged 774,000 Nigerians in a transparent process, adequately supervised and monitored them and paid N60,000.00 each for services rendered.
